What's Happening at the Library
We are excited to now offer Ground News, a real time news platform that allows patrons and students to evaluate news sources, understand media bias, and think critically about current events in real-time.
Students and patrons will be able to analyze breaking news from across the globe with access to more than 50,000 newspapers, periodicals, and other news outlets. The platform uses the concept of lateral reading to help users verify information as they read it. With a simple click or swipe users can compare related news articles in one place and filter articles by bias, time, or location to get a better sense of factors influencing media coverage.
Every article on Ground News is accompanied by a bias and factuality rating system derived from independent news monitoring organizations. Knowing the bias of a media outlet helps Ground News users understand how and why a story is being framed a certain way, while the factuality rating provides insight into the reporting practices of the publication.
